GALGORM PARKS TEMPERANCE L.O.L. No 507
Members of Ballymena District Lodge No 8

"It's not all doom and gloom for our people"

Orange Brethren and Sisters heard "it's not all doom and gloom" at the 13th Annual St Patrick's Day Commemoration Parade and Service in Ballymena on Saturday 16 March 2013. Speaking to a good size congregation Bro. Rev. Iain Jamieson said despite the economic down turn and on-going Union Flag protest our people should not get despondent about the current state of affairs in our land. For a start the vast majority of people still support the Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and a recent poll suggests only 14% want a United Ireland. The Nationalist Community is not better off in a Unified Ireland and their present status would change dramatically if the Island ever became one.

Patrick himself faced a much worse situation 15 centuries ago in pagan Ireland when he was apparently taken captive after a raid from the neighbouring island. He found himself herding cattle on the slopes of Mount Slemish County Antrim. It was at this time when Patrick's faith in God became so strong he prayed a hundred prayers a day. We all need the get back to the faith previous generations of Orangemen and Woman enjoyed like St Patrick in the fifth century.

The Rev Jamieson in his address pointed to Her Majesty the Queen's very successful visit to Dublin and Cork in 2011 and how attitudes have changed. He wished the Queen a speedy recovery from her recent illness. The Parade returned to the Protestant Hall from some very welcome warm refreshments on a bitterly cold and damp day.

Bands on parade included Ballykeel Loyal Sons of Ulster Flute Band, Pride of the Maine F.B., Craigwarren F.B. and Sir George White F.B.
